A sit down with... Richard Smith

A sit down with... Richard Smith Richard you'll have either been on the end of a full blooded tackle or you would have been on the receiving end of some "constructive criticism" while he's in the dugout. As part of some very successful teams during his playing career with the likes of Eastwood Town & Rainworth Miners Welfare as well as a coach too with Selston FC & Rainworth. Richard is one of the nicest guys you'll meet in football who has so many stories to te As a young player you played for Mansfield, Manchester United & a YTS at Notts County.  Firstly, how did the Manchester United move come about?  It was a bit different back then with no academies so I was playing for Wollaton on a Saturday and we had a great side full of rum lads who I think half are now in prison. We played in a tournament in Loughborough and a scout picked me up there. I scored a hat trick in my first game and was there for about a year. As you know I’m a Liverpool fan but

In Profile... Danny Tring last of Linby now retired Name: Danny Tring Position: Centre Back who thinks he can play upfront Current Club: Retired   Previous clubs: Linby, Eastwood CFC, Hucknall Rolls Royce, Awsworth Villa, Underwood Villa, Selston     Team supported growing up? Nottingham Forest   Childhood hero? Gianfranco Zola… Just loved to watch the little magician. Turned out to be one of the nicest men in football as well.       Biggest influence? I’d have to say watching my Dad’s Sunday morning team Man in Space growing up. This is what gave me the love for football. People snob Sunday morning football but for me it’s football at its purist form.     Favourite current player? Hate to give the answer to the last question away but… Lionel Messi. For me he’s the greatest ever. He makes the ridiculous look easy. Fancy him to lift the World Cup in Qatar   Best ground you’ve played at? Always loved Harworth Colliery. Fantastic welfare after!   B

Manchester United & Me with... YesterdaysStars

Manchester United & Me with @YesterdaysStars I speak all thing Manchester United with the man behind the @YesterdaysStars Twitter account. From earliest memory to what Manchester United means to him. Who/what got you into Manchester United? And What was your earliest memory of Manchester United?   Maybe the same answer to both questions. I can remember watching the European Cup final in 1968 at my mates house. We were all crowded round the TV. The glamour, the crowd, the noise, the silver cup and of course George Best. Whenever we played football after that, I was always George Best.     Best Manchester United game you’ve been to?   A very hard question and if you asked me another day you may get another answer. We have been blessed to see such highs. It’s certainly not been all red roses though. Relegation, the barren years of the late 70’s & 80’s where we had a couple of FA Cup’s. If I’m put on the spot at the moment best game, honestly, I really don’t know. 1977 FA Cup final
